There’s something quietly perfect about a warm flask of porridge on a crisp autumn walk. The air feels sharper, the light gentler, and everything slows down a little. Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk (or your favourite dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: extra apple slices, a sprinkle of brown sugar, chopped nuts

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, combine oats, milk, honey, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until creamy.
  3. Slice half the apple and stir it into the porridge; save the rest for topping.
  4. Remove from the heat and let it sit for a minute or two.
  5. Pour the warm porridge into your pre-heated thermos (fill with boiling water for 5 minutes first, then empty).
  6. Top with the remaining apple slices and a dusting of cinnamon.

Seal, pack, and go. By the time you’ve reached the cliff path, the porridge will still be hot and comforting — perfect for a slow, thoughtful morning.
