Standards, independence & accuracy
Editorial Policy
Danbury & Lovejoy is editorially independent. This page explains how we decide what to write, how we research and review products, and what happens when we get something wrong.
For the full method behind every review, see how we research.
How our pages are made. Gareth Isherwood decides what Danbury & Lovejoy covers and what it recommends. We use AI tools to help research and draft pages. Anything first-hand is Gareth’s own: a review only calls itself hands-on if he has used the product, and a page that doesn’t say so is based on research. Photographs of his home, his allotment and his own kit are his; other images are stock photographs or AI-generated illustrations.
Editorial independence
Danbury & Lovejoy is funded by affiliate commissions — a small fee paid by retailers, or occasionally by the brand that makes the product, when readers click through our links and make a purchase. That income funds the editorial work on this site; it never funds any individual recommendation. The site carries no display advertising. Full detail is in our Affiliate Disclosure.
No advertiser, retailer, or manufacturer has any editorial control over what we write, how we assess products, which items appear in our guides, or what position a product is given in a ranked list. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage. We do not publish advertorials or paid placements. Any sponsored content would be clearly labelled as such — we do not currently publish any.
How we choose what to write about
Topic selection is editorial, not commercial. We ask: what does a reader dealing with this situation in the UK actually need to know? We prioritise subjects with genuine practical utility for British households — heating affordably, cooking well on a budget, growing food in British conditions, managing household finances.
We do not publish content because it is trending on social media. We do not write guides around high-commission products when the guide would not otherwise serve a real reader need. Brands do not decide what we cover. We sometimes accept a product to review, and the page says so, but the topic and the verdict are ours.
Research standards
We aim to recommend only products we have assessed through thorough independent research. Our methodology is documented in full on the How We Research page — in summary, we draw on (1) lived experience where applicable, (2) aggregated reviewer consensus from Which?, Wirecutter, BBC Good Food, and verified Amazon UK reviews, (3) UK-specific filters (plugs, home size, running costs, climate, retailer availability), and (4) feedback from our newsletter readers.
In practice, this means:
- Products in buying guides are assessed against criteria relevant to real British households (price in GBP, compatibility with UK voltage and sockets, UK availability, typical UK home sizes and conditions)
- We do not rely solely on manufacturer specifications, press materials, or Amazon reviews
- Where we have not personally used a product, we explain the basis of our assessment
- Our reasoning and sources, and our own notes where we have used a product, are in the articles themselves
Product selection and ranking
Products are selected for inclusion in guides based on merit: performance, value, availability, and relevance to UK readers. Position in a ranked list reflects our honest assessment of which product best serves each type of reader.
Commission rates are never a factor in product selection or ranking. A product paying a higher commission rate is not placed higher than a product paying less. A product paying no commission is included if it is genuinely the best recommendation for the reader.
Gifted products and free samples
We occasionally receive products from manufacturers or PR agencies for review. Receiving a product free of charge does not guarantee a favourable review or a place in a buying guide, and it does not influence how we assess or describe it. We may agree with a brand when a review will appear; we never agree what it will say. Products that were gifted are clearly identified in the article with a disclosure statement.
We do not accept gifted products on the condition of a positive review. We reserve the right to give a negative assessment of any product regardless of whether it was purchased, gifted, or sent unsolicited.
Accuracy and corrections
We make every effort to ensure that facts, prices, specifications, and availability are accurate at the time of publication. Products change, prices fluctuate, and circumstances evolve. We update articles when we become aware of significant changes.
If you believe something we have published is factually incorrect, please write to us at [email protected] with the URL of the article and the specific claim you believe to be wrong. We will investigate the claim and, if a correction is warranted, publish it in-line with a dated note. We do not delete factual errors quietly. Every correction we make is also recorded on our corrections page, with the date and what changed.
Prices and availability
Prices quoted in our articles are correct at the time of writing or last update. Retail prices change frequently and we cannot guarantee that a price shown in an article reflects the current retail price. Always check the current price at the retailer before making a purchase decision.
Product availability can also change. Products may be discontinued, replaced by updated versions, or temporarily out of stock. Where a product we have recommended becomes unavailable, we aim to update the article with a comparable alternative.
Affiliate relationships
We currently earn commission through Amazon Associates, Awin, Rakuten Advertising, Tradedoubler and CJ Affiliate. Links to VeSync’s own products on Amazon (Levoit and Cosori) are tracked by VeSync through Amazon Attribution, and the commission comes from VeSync rather than Amazon Associates. A full explanation of how affiliate links work, which programmes we participate in, and what this means for our readers is available on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
In summary: affiliate links cost you nothing extra, the commission comes from the retailer or, occasionally, the brand, and it does not influence what we recommend.
